Advanced Personal Presence Emulated Augmented Reality (APPEAR)

APPEAR is a pilot virtual and augmented reality tutoring platform. It is currently being tested with the Boys and Girls Club.

Unlike most of the traditional approach of developing advanced computer tools or games in place of the instructor (i.e. comprehensive and self-contained curriculums with advanced human-to-computer interface), APPEAR endeavors to encourage closer human-to-human interactions by equipping teachers with customized computer tools and automated data mining system to provide high-level of contextual information of the students; even beyond what might be possible in a classroom.

When completed, APPEAR will enhance existing tutoring program in disadvantaged communities with the technology. It will integrate the state-of-the-art remote tutoring system that will provide a cost-effective, personalized and interactive learning experience for students with diverse backgrounds.
