USC Viterbi’s K-12 STEM Center’s NSBE Jr. chapter focuses on enhancing the education received by African-American and other pre-college students underrepresented in STEM as well as influencing these students to become tomorrow’s corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and leaders. NSBE Jr provides activities for students in grades 3-12 to discover firsthand how engineering and technology relate to the world around them and discover the excitement of academic excellence, leadership, technical development, and teamwork. Throughout the year, NSBE Jr. hosts competitions, activities, guest speakers, and field trips that excite our students and help build their STEM identity.

USC Viterbi K-12 STEM Center also hosts the Southern California NSBE Jr Chapter in collaboration with the USC NSBE student chapter. For more information about the Southern California NSBE Jr Chapter, visit https://nsbejrsocal.org/

The K-12 STEM Center develops strategies and builds initiatives to meet the needs of a diverse population, specifically in efforts to increase the representation of female students and African American/Black, Hispanic/LatinX/Latine, Native/Indigenous students in its STEM programs, such as NSBE Jr. Some of those efforts include outreach, mentorship, and scholarships. However, all STEM Center programs are open to all students in compliance with Federal and State law, as well as University policy.
