Grassroots

At GRASSROOTS, we are dedicated to supporting MESA graduating high school seniors, incoming freshmen, and transfer students from the LA Metro area MESA Programs (CSULA, CSULB, UCLA, and USC) and local community colleges. Our mission is to help students overcome obstacles to success, ensuring that all students, regardless of background, thrive in their STEM education journey.

Image of Students

The K-12 STEM Center develops strategies and builds initiatives to meet the needs of a diverse population, specifically in efforts to increase the representation of female students and African American/Black, Hispanic/LatinX/Latine, Native/Indigenous students in its STEM programs, such as GRASSROOTS. Some of those efforts include outreach, mentorship, and scholarships. However, all STEM Center programs are open to all students in compliance with Federal and State law, as well as University policy.

Programs Offered

GRASSROOTS recognizes the disparity in STEM degree persistence rates, particularly among African American/Black and Hispanic/LatinX/Latine students. Open to USC and non-USC students, we tackle identified barriers, including financial issues, college navigation, family concerns, academic readiness, and a sense of belonging. Through comprehensive support and mentorship, GRASSROOTS is dedicated to leveling the playing field for STEM success.
