Civil Engineering:

Civil engineering is a type of engineering that deals with the design and construction of infrastructure such as bridges, dams , canals and buildings. Civil engineering can be broken down into many more types of engineering such as Structural Engineering (engineering that deals with the structural design and analysis of buildings) and environmental engineering (engineering that deals with air and water pollution and waste management).

Mechanical Engineering:

Mechanical engineering is a type of engineering in which the functions of an an object s designed. Mechanical engineers design objects in many industries such as airplanes, cars and even toothbrushes. To put it simply, Mechanical engineers deal with the living functions of an object or structure and Civil engineers build the framework of an object.

Industrial Engineering:

Industrial Engineering is a type of engineering which deals with the breaking down of complex systems or processes. In other words, Industrial engineers find ways to optimize and make production of goods and services more efficient.

Step 1: Planning and Design

Before we started the construction of the bridge, we had to come up with dfferent designs for the bridge. With the help of the architects, we came with many designs.

After the elimination of different models, we chose this model.

The model we chose was an underarched bridge. The biggest advantage of this model was that we did not have to glue many strips together and attach them as carefully as we would with a truss or a pratt bridge.

Step 2: Construction of the Bridge

To construct the bridge, we had 15 planks of Balsa wood, 144 balsawood strips, 15 hot glue gun sticks and a glue gun. First we cut out Enough wood to make the 4 foot and 12 inch wide driving surface. Then we made 4 triangular towers. and glued it to the driving surface. We wetted 4 balsawood planks and set them to dry in an arched position so that the originally straight planks retain their arched position. We set it overnight and next morning, we had our arch ready. We then glued it in place, under the bridge, and re-enforced it

Step 3: Construction of the ROV

Our remote controlled vehicle was 6 inches wide from wheel to wheel since our driving surface was only 12 inches wide. To get the car to 6 inches in width, we removed every part which was not needed and carefully planned out where each part should be placed. We also made sure that the weight of the bricks are evenly distributed among the wheels so that while turnning, the wheels have enough traction.

Step 4: Improving the aesthetic appeal of the bridge

We improved the bridge by adding squares around the bridge. We used one of the designs that was created by the architecture students
