 Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is the design and construction of public works, such as dams, bridges and other large infrastructure projects. It is one of the oldest branches of engineering, dating back to when people first started living in permanent settlements and began shaping their environments to suit their needs. We used this when constructing our bridge and formulating our design.

 Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering, dating back to when the first wheels were put to practical use by mounting them on an axle to make a cart. Throughout recorded history, people have been inventing and building increasingly more sophisticated devices and machines in order to improve the conditions of life. Many of the machines we encounter every day — cars, appliances, tools and climate control systems — were made possible by mechanical engineers. We used this when constructing and d3esigning our VEX robot.

 Bridge

We originally aimed to build a truss bridge; however, we went to complicated with our design and jumped right in with too little materials in order for our bridge to work succesfully. We had to scrap our bridge completely and start again. Our new design was more of a table, we put as much support into the substructure of our bridge as we could, but in the end it fell over anyway.

 Robot

The vex robot was created by Amanda and Khaled. They tried to create a design hat would work with our bridge, but communication between the bridge builders and the robot builders was weak. The robot fit into the brige by the end, but our lack of time for programming caused the robot to unsuccesfully complete the task of moving across the bridge and back.
