Research Lab #6:  Internet and Cybersecurity Lab

PI:  Prof. Jelena Mirkovic (Computer Science)

Lab Overview:
This lab focuses on distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, Internet worms, botnets, and IP spoofing. The lab members work on designing distributed defenses against DDoS attacks, on benchmarks project for designing a common evaluation methodology for DDoS defenses, and a distributed, realistic large-scale simulator of Internet events. The simulator currently replicates Internet worm spread events with high fidelity.

ACCESS 4Teachers-RET Project #6:
Teachers will collaborate on projects that investigate cybersecurity related research.  They will also assist in the development of novel methods that increase cybersecurity that are also minimally invasive and nimble for diverse end users.  The teachers will:

  • gain first-hand knowledge of the systems that inform cybersecurity,
  • understand the role that cyber security and internet environments play in CS and engineering, and
  • recognize potential societal and technical relevance of cybersecurity as a compelling and engaging learning tool.
